Goats in general are easy keepers. Summer grazing is prefered with a place to get away from dampness and wind. They also do quite well in the winter, as long as they have a dry, draft free place to go, and a constant supply of water. They eat good quaility grass and alfalfa hay, supplemented with a grain mixture, and minerals. Their main enemies are internal parasites and Entrotoxiemia "Over Eaters Disease". Routine dewormings and vaccinations are highly suggested. Obviously, the needs are determined by the herd size and the type of life style they live. Nigerians are very affectionate, gentle, and curious making wonderful family pets and fun animal projects for 4-H and FFA. They are very social animals and NEED a companion (another goat or barn yard animal) or you will be dealing with an escapee on a regular basis.
